Check Yourself

As I was seeking God this morning in my office I came across this. What a humbling chapter for me. I know a lot of us are all about the service programming. I am. It’s what we do. It’s a good thing…it’s a great thing, when kept in perspective.
Leaders, as we continue doing what we do, day in and day out, remember these words that God spoke in Amos. Check your heart, your motives, your pretenses. True worship is without hypocrisy. As incredible as some of the production is, remember the heart and motivation that drives our programs.

Fellow leaders…Go get ‘em today. But get ‘em from a heart that is bent toward God and away from self!

21 “I hate all your show and pretense—
the hypocrisy of your religious festivals and solemn assemblies.
22 I will not accept your burnt offerings and grain offerings.
I won’t even notice all your choice peace offerings.
23 Away with your noisy hymns of praise!
I will not listen to the music of your harps.
24 Instead, I want to see a mighty flood of justice,
an endless river of righteous living. Amos 5:23 (NLT)

Leading & Serving

This morning I came across Philippians 2. I have read this chapter hundreds of times and today it spoke to me like it was a brand new message. The Holy Spirit began speaking to me about leadership & servant hood. Maybe you think the two are not connected. But if we see leadership through the eyes of Scripture we cannot help but realize that leadership involves serving. The best leaders are the best servers. And the best servers are the best leaders.

Let me share some scripture with you today. I pray that it will encourage you to serve whole heartily!

Phil. 2: 3-7, 14-16  (ESV) 3Do nothing from rivalry or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves. 4Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others. 5 Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus, 6 who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, 7but made himself nothing, taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men.

14Do all things without grumbling or questioning, 15that you may be blameless and innocent, children of God without blemish in the midst of a crooked and twisted generation, among whom you shine as lights in the world, 16holding fast to the word of life, so that in the day of Christ I may be proud that I did not run in vain or labor in vain.

Mark 9:33-35  And when he was in the house he asked them, “What were you discussing on the way?” 34But they kept silent, for on the way they had argued with one another about who was the greatest. 35And he sat down and called the twelve. And he said to them, “If anyone would be first, he must be last of all and servant of all.”

If you want to see Jesus in action go check out John 13.  The greatest leader was  serving his disciples and washing their feet.

So leaders, how are you doing?  Are you serving or are you simply requesting others to serve for your benefit.  If you are, you need to take a serious look at your motives and your heart.

That is one of the things I love most about Fellowship.  No one wants to get the credit.  People come out and serve on teams because they know their serving helps bring about life change and the advancement of the gospel.  They know it’s not about them.  They see the bigger picture and they show the very heart of Christ by serving!   Thank you to all my fellow servants!
