As my friend Greg Davis would say “Happy Friday”. I for one am thankful that it is friday and that the weekend is almost here. I have to admit that I am tired today. Partly because I have stayed up past midnight the last two nights to watch the phillies play the dodgers. And partly because of the eventful night we had last night.
Around three this morning the smoke detector in Mason’s room started chirping loudly. I mean blaring loud. We thought that it was going to scare him half to death. He is already afraid of it because he see’s it up on the ceiling of his room in the middle of the night. It has a green light and a red light on it so it kind of looks like eyes anyway.
So Jennifer and I went into his room trying to get the crazy thing off the ceiling. It was still screaming loud and we were astounded that Mason was sleeping through this ordeal. I ran to the kitchen to search through the batteries. I found every kind of battery but the 9 volt it requires. I went through all my drawers in my bedroom. I looked in my backpack, the closets, and everywhere inbetween. We finally got it down and took the battery out.
For some reason God allows me to see things like this and see them through spiritual eyes. My wife would say I am gifted in that way. I think it just makes our spiritual life a little easier to understand.
I see people everyday who are sleeping through life while their alarms are blairing right over their head. I am convicted more and more everyday that I exist to wake people from their sleep. My job is not to get rid of the alarm going off. My job is to wake the person so that they can take the appropriate action with their lives.
I have alarms that go off in my life everyday. Maybe it causes me to turn the station on the television. Maybe it causes me to pray harder. Maybe it causes me to seek God’s face more. Whatever the purpose of the alarms going off in our lives, we cannot sleep through them. We cannot pull the pillow over our lives and try to stay asleep. There is too much at stake. The world is burning down around us while we sleep safely in our own bed. So wake up!!

We sometimes get desensitized to the alarms or get used to hearing them so often it becomes part of our everyday life to just tune it out. Ephesians 5:14 talks about waking up those that are sleeping to Christ’s light. Sometimes we need a reminder not to take things like tomorrow for granted. So if you catch me sleeping please wake me!!
