Wake up

As my friend Greg Davis would say “Happy Friday”. I for one am thankful that it is friday and that the weekend is almost here.  I have to admit that I am tired today.  Partly because I have stayed up past midnight the last two nights to watch the phillies play the dodgers. And partly because of the eventful night we had last night.

Around three this morning the smoke detector in Mason’s room started chirping loudly.  I mean blaring loud.  We thought that it was going to scare him half to death.  He is already afraid of it because he see’s it up on the ceiling of his room in the middle of the night.  It has a green light and a red light on it so it kind of looks like eyes anyway.

So Jennifer and I went into his room trying to get the crazy thing off the ceiling.  It was still screaming loud and we were astounded that Mason was sleeping through this ordeal. I ran to the kitchen to search through the batteries.  I found every kind of battery but the 9 volt it requires.  I went through all my drawers in my bedroom.  I looked in my backpack, the closets, and everywhere inbetween.  We finally got it down and took the battery out.

For some reason God allows me to see things like this and see them through spiritual eyes.  My wife would say I am gifted in that way.  I think it just makes our spiritual life a little easier to understand.

I see people everyday who are sleeping through life while their alarms are blairing right over their head.  I am convicted more and more everyday that I exist to wake people from their sleep.  My job is not to get rid of the alarm going off.  My job is to wake the person so that they can take the appropriate action with their lives.

I have alarms that go off in my life everyday.  Maybe it causes me to turn the station on the television.  Maybe it causes me to pray harder.  Maybe it causes me to seek God’s face more.  Whatever the purpose of the alarms going off in our lives, we cannot sleep through them.  We cannot pull the pillow over our lives and try to stay asleep.  There is too much at stake.  The world is burning down around us while we sleep safely in our own bed.  So wake up!!

Without You

This morning I was playing through some songs that we will be doing in a few weeks.  I began to enter into worship.  My office became a sanctuary where I sang and worshiped God.  One of the songs contained the words “I’m lost without you” and the thought occurred to me.  What if God were not God.  What if I was without God.  I began to think of what that would look like.

  • There would be no love
  • There would be no forgiveness
  • There would be no hope
  • There would be no purpose
  • I would be in bondage and destined to die
  • There would be no church, no Christianity
  • There would be only evil

I cannot imagine life without God.  Yet many people live their lives as if God did not exist.  And for them, there is no purpose, there is no hope, they are in bondage, and they are destined to die.

Fellowship Church exists to let people know that they do not have to live a life without God.  There is hope, there is forgiveness, there is purpose, there is life.  He is mighty to save!

Joy

I haven’t blogged as much as I would like to or even should. It was a busy week. One night we had auditions for the worship team, another night we had practices. The week seemed to fly.
I hope you are planning to be with us tomorrow at Fellowship Church. We are in the middle of one of John’s best series ever. It’s called side effects and is on the fruits of the spirit. This week we will be looking at joy. Do you have joy? Real joy? Are you able in the midst of pain and trials to experience true joyfulness?
I am excited to be in God’s house tomorrow. Hope to see you there.

Team

Tomorrow morning we will be doing some tag team worship leading. I am so excited to introduce a brand new song entitled “revelation song”. It might be the first song I will play piano on. It’s August and I have the majority of my team on vacation. So we are all going to pitch in tomorrow to bring God as much glory as possible.
Did I mention there are worship team auditions on Wednesday? Make sure if you are interested that you sign up for an audition time at the guest services table.
I look forward to seeing you all tomorrow.
